New Etsy Shop: The Hive Destash

I've opened a new Etsy shop! I posted a few fabric listings on The Morose Bee as a destash sale and it went well enough that I decided to open a shop dedicated to selling fabric and notions. I have a ridiculous amount of supplies so I'm excited to have this new shop! As a seller, I have often purchased my supplies from other Etsy sellers and I'm thrilled to be branching out into this new avenue for other sellers. I'll still have The Morose Bee where I sell items I hand make, but The Hive will be specifically for supplies. Check it out HERE.

The Creative Process: ABC Quilt

I don't have a ton  to say about this one. It's a quilt I made just for fun with an ABC panel I picked up at a craft show. I just wanted to share the process!

The Creative Process: Bumblebee Quilt

Hey look something non-Frida related! I made a quilt for a friend a few weeks ago who was doing a whole bumblebee theme for her shower and nursery. It was a fun quilt to make and nice break to make during all the Frida-suff. She had her baby a few days ago and it's all so exciting!!

I decided to start using scraps of quilt batting and sew them together to make the batting for smaller quilts. It worked really well and I ended up doing it again for another quilt I've made.

I've never really done a design for the actual quilting part so I tried to sort of wing it for the idea I had. I kept the piecing simple because I knew I wanted to do something for intricate for the quilting. I have no knowledge of how "professional" quilting is done, but this worked really well. It just took FOREVER.

I didn't take any good pictures for scale, but the quilt came out slightly larger than a "baby" size quilt, but not quite big enough to be considered a "crib" size quilt. I think it will be a perfect size quilt for floor play. The little nugget was born just a few days ago so I hope they find it useful.

Viva La Frida Swap: What I Sent Pt 3 & What I Received

Here it is! The last post of the Viva La Frida Swap 2017! The last thing I sent was to Lizette and I didn't "make" anything, but still wanted to share all the Frida related goodies! I swear I collect them non stop! My favorite part was the Christmas themed Dia de los Muertos fabric I found at a little shop on my trip to Portland earlier this year. As for what I got....

My partner was in Germany which meant along with my handmade Frida items, she sent all kinds of fun things from Germany!

This bag might be my favorite thing she sent even though it's the "main feature." I've been thinking about switching bags and I think I'll be carrying this one around a lot soon!

The main item was a Frida mini quilt! It's about the size of a baby quilt and would make an awesome wall hanging. I just haven't decided where to put it yet. We're still unpacking a bit so it will sadly be tucked away until I find it's home.

In total I received: a mini quilt, a bag, candy, Frida magnets, a Hamburg pin, a Hamburg mug (broken during shipping, not pictured), a note book, a keychain, and a shadowbox!!! So many amazing items! I'm so happy with everything and had THE BEST time with this swap. I'm already excited for next year.

The next Bee Creative Swap sign up will be July 15th so check us out on Facebook or Instagram @beecreativeswaps to stay in the loop!

Viva La Frida Swap: What I Sent Part 2

For the Viva La Frida Swap, I had one partner and then ended up being a swap angel for someone else. Because I didn't take as many photos of this as my previous swaps, but you can see my whole post about the mugs I made here.

My second partner was a mom of 3 so I wanted to send her some practical items for running around with her kiddos. I decided to make her a tote and send her travel mug I had made. My little extras for her were a pair of Frida Socks and a cactus ornament, but I also threw 2 books for her kids. One book is one of my favorite kids books about Frida Kahlo and one was a little book about San Francisco to include a little something about where I live.

I had a chunk of extra Frida fabric from previous items I've made so I threw in a decent cut of that for her own making in the future. Bonus: it made good padding to ship the mug!

I tried to send something completely different than what I sent my first partner and it was really fun getting new inspiration for Frida items for someone else!
