DIY: Small Autumn Wreath

I've been very excited for this autumn. The summer seemed to totally slip away from me, so I'm trying to take full advantage of this wonderful season! Halloween is my favorite holiday, but it could have something to do with the fact that it falls right after my birthday so October was just a fun filled month for me growing up.

To kick off the season in my house, I made my own Fall Wreath!

DIY Autumn Wreath

Supplies:
Styrofoam hoop purchased from Michael's
Small black bird decorations purchased from Michael's
Divine Twine in orange and black.

Essentially it's just a hoop wrapped in string. The concept was pretty simple, but wrapping a thin twine around the circle until it completely covered everything easily took over an hour!

Once completely wrapped, I looped the twine around my hand several times to make a hoop to hang on the hook on my door. I figured it was easier than figuring out how to make a way to hold it in place after the fact.

I debated on how to add more decoration to it, but I thought the two little black ravens (crows? either way) were just too cute to pass up. Plus, I like the simple look.

The lighting in my building is AWFUL and it's made even worse by the fact that I live in a basement apartment so what little lighting there in the hallways barely makes in down to my floor. As you can see, the colors of the twine are completely washed out in the photo, but it looks cute in person!

Happy Fall everyone! What crafts are you working on?

The Liebster Award

I was nominated for The Liebster Award by Amy from Pictures and Pillows! The award is intended to allow small time bloggers to get to know each other better as well as expose their readers to new blogs they love as well.

If you're tagged you have to write 11 things about yourself, and then answer the 11 questions from the blogger who tagged you. You then choose other bloggers with less than 200 followers that you want to get to know, and choose your own 11 questions you'd like to ask them.

11 things About Me:

1: I love avocados. I add it to meals the way most people add salt and pepper.

2: I could get 12 hours of sleep a night and still always feel sleepy.
3: My favorite color is purple.
4: I feel ashamed admitting I really just want to be a stay at home wife. It makes me feel anti-feminist...or something.
5: I don't like being asked about my tattoos.
6: I want to go on a road trip so bad! I've felt so restless lately.
7: I am awful at math.
8: I am a cheap drunk.
9: I like to fantasize about being a minimalist, but I like "things" too much
10: I like dark beverages. Red wine, coffee, spiced rum, Coca-Cola.
11: Reese's peanut butter cups are my vegan kryptonite

Answers to Pictures and Pillows Questions:

1: What drove you to start your blog?

When I started my Etsy shop, it seemed like a good idea to be able to share my creative process.

2: What is your favourite TV show?

For a long time it was Freaks & Geeks, but now I have to say my new favorite is definitely Girls.

3: Who is your favourite actor/actress?

Hmmm.... probably Jason Segel. That could also be just because I want to be his best friend.

4: Mornings or evenings?

It always feels good to start the day with a productive morning, but I'm the worst at getting out of bed!

5: What is your favourite type/style of jewelry

I love big loud jewelry! Surprised?

6: What is your favourite craft?

My favorite medium is probably watercolors mainly because it's something I hardly ever get to do.

7: If you could only eat the food from one country for the rest of your life, what would it be?

That depends. I love Americana diner style food when its made vegan, but the problem is it usually isn't. Can I have an exception to the rule? Haha.

8: What is your fondest memory from when you were a child?

When my dad would let me put makeup on him when I was a toddler. I always thought it was hilarious!

9: Cats or dogs?

DOGS, but I would settle for a kitty as well.

10: Do you have any pets?

Yup! A lovely hedgehog named Denny Crane.

11: What would your dream job be?

Haha. I think I answered this above already...

For the blogs I'm tagging, I'm choosing some of my favorite art teacher blogs! It's always fun to see the great kid art posted by teachers, but sometimes its nice to learn a little more about the person behind it all!

My questions are:
1. What is your least favorite art medium or craft project?
2. What is your favorite piece of art created by one of your students?
3. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
4. Summer heat or winter blizzards?
5. What is your ideal vacation?
6. Any long gone alternate career dreams?
7. What is your most prized possession?
8. If there were 25 hours in a day, I would use that extra time too...?
9. If your art budget was limitless, what new materials would you invest in either for yourself or your students?
10. What is your favorite color?
11. And just for kicks, Ninjas or Pirates?

I look forward to seeing everyone's answers and thanks again to Amy for nominating me!

UNICEF Fundraiser

I have been a volunteer with UNICEF for about 7 years now and every year I try and do something different to support their Trick or Treat for UNICEF campaign. First of all, it involves Halloween (my favorite!!) and, second, it tries to get kids in involved. I think children learning how to help their own peers is an incredible idea! So...here is what I'm doing: From now until October 31st, I will be selling sponsorship ad spaces to be placed in my sponsor section. These ad spaces are purely to sponsor UNICEF and are not intended for me to make any money. Anyone who signs up before September 30th will also be featured in a "Fundraising Highlights" post on my blog as well. I realize that my blog does not have as many followers as some, but I hope everyone can appreciate the value of contributing to a good cause. You can purchase ads through my Passionfruit Shop here:
Also, 30% of the sale of any item sold in my Etsy shop up through October 31st with be donated to UNICEF as well. You can learn more about the Trick or Treat for UNICEF program by clicking here!

KidArt: Final Summer Round Up

These are the last of the photos that I have from my summer art programs this year. It's certainly bittersweet looking at these. I am relieved that it is over, but I also miss some of this kids very much and hope to see them again next summer.

Also, don't forget that tomorrow is the last day to sign up to join the Halloween Costume Swap! Make a fun craft for your swap partner based on their Halloween costume plans! I think it will be a lot of fun. To join, e-mail me at themorosebee(at)gmail(dot)com

Waiting for Autumn

Waiting for Autumn

I am really late to the style board party, but I have to say they are awesome. You can assemble an outfit for inspiration or for helping you decide what to purchase. Plus I can imagine The Morose Bee items with other styles of clothing. I'm kind of addicted........

Anyways, this time of the year is so frustrating for me. Around September I'm always desperately wanting the cold weather to come to I can start dressing in sweaters, stockings, and earth tones, but it alway seems to be ridiculously warm out. The best a girl can do is slip on some summer wear in a darker fall color palette and keep an eye on the weather forecast.
