We All Scream

It's getting mighty warm here in Boston, the land of perpetual winter. I know that means it's getting hot everywhere else as well! As soon as it's starting to feel like spring, all of the sudden it's gross and muggy out. Ice cream is the perfect summer time treat and even now I still love the vegan variations! I really love jewelry that looks like the food I'm craving and what's in my shop is no exception!

I've had these ice cream necklaces for quite a while and just never seemed to get around to getting decent photos of them taken and posted to my shop!

check them here.

Weekend Joy

I hadn't really intended my weekend to be an exciting holiday event, but it's sort of turning out that way and I'm not really complaining!

Tomorrow I'm walking up bright and early to go to the first Northeast Derby Convention hosted by Bruised Boutique! I am so pumped!

A few things before I leave for the weekend that I couldn't help but share. If you run a small business, a blog, or just like being crafty, this blog entry from A Beautiful Mess on Time Management is awesome! Definitely feeling inspired to be more productive with my time. I definitely spent wayyyy to much time just sitting on the internet when I could have been doing some much more productive!

I also discovered Calming Manatee this week. It is my new favorite meme. Love it more than Y U NO which is saying a lot!

I hope everyone has an awesome weekend!

Wayward Bookworm: Starting From Scratch

I could talk about making my way through Game of Throughs (very slowly), but I don't know if I have the words to express how ridiculous and totally awesome those books are.

SO! Moving on to something more in my realm, a few weeks ago I finished reading Creative, Inc by Meg Mateo Ilasco and Joy Deangdeelert Cho.

I usually don't pay much attention to many of these "basics for newbies" kind of books as I've been doing the Etsy thing for a few years and have been relatively "self employed" for several months now. However, we all can become jaded and lose sight of what it is that we're trying to accomplish ESPECIALLY when you don't have a boss or a company to guide the way.

To be perfectly honest, this book didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, but that's not a bad thing! If it's been a while since you really did a self evaluation of yourself as a small business owner or freelancer OR if you're just starting out, this book is awesome! One of of my all time favorite crafty how to books is Crafty Superstar (which you can read my previous review about here), but Crafty Superstar tends to focus on things like doing craft shows. Not that it doesn't have other great information it at as well, but it doesn't always get down to the meat and potatoes of freelance work. Creative, Inc is a the starting point that we all need with great resources regarding things like licenses, taxes, customer relations, getting an agent, etc.

After finishing this book, I have purchased a new day planner and have completely reorganized the way I go about organizing my day. This may not sound like a huge take-away from this book, but I am a Day Planner Snob. I write in my planner incessantly and I am always looking for the planner that is the best laid out and that will save my life when it comes to keeping track of everything. What Creative, Inc helped me to realize was that I am trying to fit my life and my schedule into someone else's mold. No wonder I feel so disorganized and chaotic all of the time! What I needed was an organization method that didn't require me to put my life in someone else's pre made boxes. I ended up investing in a bunch of Russel+Hazel materials! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!

All of their products have just a bit of a layout like tabs, grids, calendars, but then the rest is open ended with no real design or excess information. That way you just pick a few packs of what you like and can organize your day planner or recipe book or whatever in any fashion that works for your life. They always have things like pocket folders, page protectors, and sticky notes. ::SWOON::
I'm hoping this will all lead to better follow through of my goals, faster product creation, and maybe even paying my bills faster *fingers crossed*.

Boston Exploration

After my last week of feeling pretty crummy. I've had a good couple of days. Even though I live in an awesome city with plenty of things to do, I feel like I never get to see any of it. On Saturday Ari and I walked around town to check out the Christian Science Museum as well as The Museum of Fine Arts.

I have a bad habit at liking silly things when I'm in museums. Like statues that look like vampires and awesome fist shaped goblets. I like all of the silly random things.

I'm feeling so much better and even rocked out a bunch of painting today at work. I think the month of May is looking to have an awesome second half!

Down In The Dumps

Today. Was. Shit.

After a rough day at work last night (I don't know why, I was just in stress overdrive), I ended up arguing with people at Bank of America for over an hour and then arguing on the phone with people from T-Mobile when I got home. By the time it was all over, I was exhausted and frustrated. Instead of spending the day doing productive things, I've been in at home in a funk and feeling crummy.

As someone who's livelihood is based on constantly being creative, inspired, and motivated, today was one of those days that sets you back a week in productivity. It's frustrating sometimes that I can't just show up somewhere, clock in, trudge through, and go home.  When you run a small business, you must be feeling good and self motivated at all times and THAT IS FREAKING HARD.

I was so bummed out today I ended up not even going to roller derby scrimmage.

The only thing I can hope for is that a good nights sleep will leave me to feel refreshed and motivated.

Tomorrow is a new day. Here's to hoping. Cheers.

Wedding Wednesday

First of all, I can't believe that I am writing this right now. I didn't think that Ari would even be thinking of purposing let alone coming home from work to spend a few minutes each night talking about our freaking wedding. It's the most surreal and unexplainable thing.
Naturally, I've been glued to my computer looking at wedding things in-between everything that I do. Every spare moment is a trip to Offbeat Bride or The Knot. I'm already mapping out the things that I will make myself, the crafts to come, tutorials for the blog, etc.

As a kick off post, here's a round of pretty wedding inspiration

this dress from Ruche. Not quite my dream dress, but still a close contender for a spring wedding.

i am in love with floral print mismatched bridesmaid's dresses! another from Etsy

First Vlog!

So yesterday I hit 200 sales and decided that I would do a Vlog to commemorate the occasion! Talking to a computer screen alone in your apartment is a bit awkward, but I'm pretty happy with the result. I think I got my message across.

If you have any tips you'd like to share let me know!
