A Bit of the Bubbly

I've been making these Speech Bubble Necklaces for a while now and I'm just so fond of them.

I've decided that in honor of the fall and my favorite holiday HALLOWEEN (squee!) You can now have the choice between a black Sharpie or an oranage Sharpie with your purchase!

Edible Crafts

I'm really excited for col weather already! I even find myself craving foods like chili and pot pie which are heartier and I normally save for winter. The other night I decided to make a stew of sorts to quench my winter foods craving.

Tempeh and Portobello Mushroom Stew

Always steam your tempeh before cooking it! If you've ever tried tempeh and found it bitter, you probably just needed to steam it first.

Chopped up all of my my veggies and my seasonings are ready to go. Bell peppers, onions, portobello mushrooms.

Frying up my tempeh! Fried tempeh has a bit more crunch and it only needs to be in the pan for about 3 minutes on each side.

Next up, sauteing garlic, onions, and bell peppers.

After about 7 minutes, add in your mushrooms and continue to cook everything down.

Adding in some veggie broth, spices, sherry, and I love adding some kind of flour or thickener to give that thick creamy texture.

Add in your tempeh at the very end and mix everything together!

A little rosemary focaccia bread on the side and yum!!! Bring on winter!

Big Changes

Me in art classes Summer 2009
I have not been working a lot of Morose Bee related things this week because last week I made the last minute decision to GO BACK TO SCHOOL. Gah! Ari and I were talking about finances and a little switch just went off in my head and I though "screw it! I'm going back to school." I left school for financial reasons, but now I feel that I should go back for my overall financial interests in the long run.

I'm up in the left hand corner! PBG Lifestyle Magazine 2009
Plus I REALLY MISS PASTELS AND WATERCOLORS! Ceramics and jewelry design is great, but I miss good ol' fashion paper some days. You just cannot create as much visual interest with ceramic glazes. I'm excited to build my portfolio and share my work in progress with all of you. I can't even begin to imagine what kind of crazy schedule I'm going to have over the next few months, but I do know that life is about to get even more interesting.

Edible Crafts- Studying Calls for Treats

It feels like its been forever since I made a yummy batch of cookies, but tonight I had some serious late night studying going on for a derby rules test tomorrow. So naturally ginger macadamia nut cookies were required.

This were made inspired by a recipe from Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar. I swear I have other dessert cookbooks! The recipes just aren't as good....

Chopping my candied ginger

Sifting some flour, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg

Canola oil, raw sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, coconut extract

Oh the infamous mixing of your wet and dry ingredients

Folding in macadamia nuts and the candied ginger

Godspeed little dough balls!

14 minutes in the oven and here they are baked and delicious!

Even Ari said they were some of the best cookies I've ever made. Thanks Isa! Now I just hope I can pass my test....

Imitation Is The Sincerest Form Of Flattery

I completed a custom piece a few days ago that I'm quite proud of! It was a piece brought to me by a very kind man who wanted me to replicate his art rather than make copies himself so he could hang the piece in a  display in his home.

This is the original

Work in progress before the firing.

The finished piece! I think it came out great and I'm really happy with the finished result. Sometimes copying someone else's artwork can be exhausting because you have to be so careful, but this was actually quite fun.

Forcing yourself to replicate something is the best way to learn. It challenges your brain to use techniques or colors that you're not familiar with or would normally never pick out. Plus painting a big giant piece after being so used to make tiny little pieces was a bit of a relief on my hands.
