Teacher Emily

I'm finally starting to get going on getting back to teaching in Boston! I love working with kids. Their stories and little jokes humor me and the creativity and vulnerability of kids is completely inspiring to me. Today I had the pleasure of spending some creative time with two new little friends of mine.

I was working on painting some little owl friends to hang in my living room as well as making some new mustaches out of terra cotta clay.

I can't wait to get back to the kids on Monday and I'll be brain storming what fun projects we'll be doing all weekend!

Habitat for Insanity

It's been a while since I've done a post on some crafty apartment related thing, but it took me a while to get back into the spirit of things since I've been home from out of town. I finally got started on a new project around here. I hate that we have big empty walls in our bedroom. Not having a headboard of any kind just leads to big dead space and I haven't quit figure out the right solution for them. I bought a few of these craft letters at Paper Source and I thought it would be fun to start a little wall collage above the bed.

My original plan was to draw on them and then paint them with some kinda pirate/ninja design

After a while I decided they might turn out looking more professional if I just did some collage over top of them.
Supplies:
Craft letters
Glue stick/Mod Podge
Scissors
Old Magazines

I put them above the bed with contact strips. It's still really plain and boring, but I hope to add a few more items to curate a nice little collection to have a display above the bed.

More importantly, it all only cost me about $5!

New Website!

I spent all day Monday revamping The Morose Bee website. I think it looks much better than the old one although I'm still working on it and hoping to get a new round of nice photos too! I hope you guys like it.

Internet Inspiration

This is an incredible sculpture vs two dimensional artwork display. I love nontraditional sculpture and this work by Shintaro Ohata is just beautiful.

Last Heart Ring

I don't know if it was a Valentine's Day boost or what, but my Giant Heart Rings have been popular seller's over the last few months. In fact, I only have ONE ring remaining in the color pink! I'm not sure when I'll be making more because I'm already gearing up to get ready for fall jewelry so consider this the last pink heart ring for a while.

You can check out the listing for the pink ring here as well as the listing for the purple ring here.

It's always so nice to know that you have a product that people enjoy! Very rarely do I completely sell out of everything. Craft shows are always so interesting because I hardly EVER sell two of the same item. Almost every show that I've done I've sold plenty of items but they're always different. People's tastes are so interesting!

Edible Crafts

Ari and I have been doing our best to keep junk out of the house and turn ourselves super buff and svelte. Okay well...maybe not, but we both gained a bit of weight on the cruise so it's going to be mostly veggies going on in this joint for a while. As a vegan that's pretty normal for me, but Ari is a fan of meat so it's going to be a bit of a lifestyle change for him. For dinner the other night I made a Pad Thai styled salad based on a recipe from Appetite for Reduction.

Mixing up the peanut salad dressing. Shallots, peanuts, soy sauce, agave nectar, lime juice.

I couldn't find any bean sprouts at our HORRIBLE local grocery store, so I used broccoli sprouts instead. Not bad, but not my favorite kind. This dish was a nice deviation from our garden style salads that we usually make for dinner.
**Tip: the leftover salad and dressing make for great Thai style wraps with a bit of tofu sauteed in soy sauce. It made for a nice 5min lunch the next day!
