Look Ma! I'm Trendy!

So the day after I made my treasury featuring vintage 9-5 office garb, Etsy makes their Etsy finds "Librarian Chic." Good news folks, I'm trendier than I thought!

Introducing my next Celebrity Stache attempt......

Civil War general and founder of the sideburns.

I have no idea how this will turn out because that mustache-sideburns duo challenges my mustache making abilities in a whole new way. Wish me luck!

Day #1

Whelp, day #1 of the 9 clothes for 30 days and today was....just like any other day. I'm sure it won't start to suck until day #14 or so, but getting dressed with a bare closet was certainly easy.
And this is what I call staying up until midnight playing catch up. Just me, Eddie Izzard, and some ceramics.

Clothing Challange

A while ago I blogged about The Uniform Project and my desire to do some sort of 365 project. Well, today I got an e-mail from The Daily Worth about a wearing only 6 items of clothing for 30 days. The whole idea is to bring awareness to sustainable fashion and, in the case of The Daily Worth, to help people cut down on their budget.

I figure I have roughly 30 days until I'm in Boston and I need to start packing anyway soooo...this would be the perfect project for me! I realized very quickly while picking through my clothes that I can't do only6 items of clothing. I live in Florida and I work all day and I would sweat through everything in no time. So, I've upped the limit to 9 articles of clothing.

So here it is...
1. Plain White T-Shirt
2. Blank Tank Top
3. Flight of the Conchords T-Shirt
4. Floral Shirt
5. White Shirt
6. Denim Shorts
7. Denim Skirts
8. Black Shorts
9. Floral Jump Suit

My closet looks so empty and pathetic now..blehh

Poor Yoda being packed away with all of my clothes.

I'm really excited for this and how I can use the Morose Bee items to jazz up each day.

9-5 Picks

I've been doing a lot of job hunting lately and applying for a lot of secretarial work. I figure it pays well and I can wear cute clothes. I've been browsing the Etsy Vintage section a lot lately looking for things I may want to buy in the future so I decided to make a treasury out of them.

A little Ron to brighten your day

So I posted a new mustache today. Its a gray old man stache for the days where you just need to go outside and tell some kids to get the heck off your lawn.

I thought I'd see which celeb I could give this a good comparison to only to find that I could not find any current celebs with a solid silver handlebar stache. Maybe there is someone that I'm missing but my Google search was very disappointing.

Although this came up....

Which is always exciting.

Oh and don't forget, ONLY ONE WEEK OF FREE SHIPPING ON EVERYTHING IN THE SHOP REMAINS!

Upcycled Crayons Tutorial

So I was really shocked to find out that my upcycled crayons were so popular on Etsy! They were featured in that Etsy finds e-mail last week and both listings sold right away and then I had several e-mails from people requesting more. I think they're a great little item to make because I am 100% reusing a material that most people would just toss.

So....here's how I make 'em.

1. take all your little bits and pieces. it doesn't matter if you mix brands or anything like that. just make sure they're all crayons and not some other new-fangled over priced child's coloring apparatus.

2. remove all wrappers, lint, or any other guests that may be co-habitating with your crayons

3. sort them by color or whatever way you want. i usually try and keep my warm colors and my cool colors together or what have you, but get creative.

4. cook 'em up! i usually set my oven to about 350 and keep and eye on them so they don't burn

5. i put them in the freezer as soon as i take them out of the oven to cool down. be careful not to spill the hot crayon juice on yourself. i guess it would technically be called wax, but crayon juice is much more fun to say.

6. whenever they've solidified, pop them out carefully and voila! new funky crayons! i use a silicon cupcake tray so taking out is easy, but i dunno how metal out work. i'll have to look into it.

My Second Book Review: Craft, Inc

I finished reading Craft Inc a while ago. Ever since I read Crafty Superstar, I've been really into reading craft how-to books both from a business, emotional, and technical aspect. It's like a refined and graceful version of the Etsy forums. Craft Inc. was more of a book for the crafter with corporate dreams. The book is full of info on how to go about locating foriegn and/or local factories to pump out large quanities of your wares as well as how to going about hiring assistants and staff. Of course it also had the basic stuff like starting to figure out your finances and starting up a website and la di da da, but this book is definitely meant more for the crafter beant on world domination and not for the chick who is happy as a pig in you-know-what hunched over her living room coffee table re-watching Arrested Development for the 28798273 time and assembling mustache necklaces.

You can check out Craft Inc here on Amazon.com

Travel Wishlist

The one thing I hate about traveling (aside from being so behind on everything when I come home) is being stuck in a car for such extended periods of time. In general, I hate driving. I have a 35 minute commute to work everyday and I hate it. Plus I have to pee every 5 minutes because I seem to have the worlds tiniest bladder so I always make trips fun for everyone else. Needless to say I'm pretty glad to be home. For this weeks long overdue edition of the Weekly Wishlist, I've picked out a few items that would have made being stuck in a car from Florida to Massachusetts and back again much more enjoyable.
etsy user: doodlebugsfunfashions
etsy user: sygnetcreationsWell the first two are self explanatory, I think. Sleeping in a car is quite possibly one of the most uncomfortable activities aside from maybe sleeping on an airplane. I woke up on more than one occasion in a grumpy mood with a stiff neck. We brought a regular pillow but it just doesn't do the justice of a neck pillow and man-oh-man am I mad I didn't bring an eye mask.

I have a strict rule about travel luggage. I take one bag and I can only take what fits in the bag. Clothes, toiletries, they've all got to fit or they don't go no matter how long the trip. This carry case by anotherjamiedavis is so awesome! Plus the sturdy exterior is great for getting knocked around and squished between the luggage of others.

etsy user: naturescubbyholeI'm more of a reader than a writer on the road, but sometimes the best time to jot down some jewelry ideas, do a little financial planning, or even just doodle is when you've got 3 hours to kill stuck in New Jersey traffic trying to get to the New York state line. And who can beat a hemp journal made with recycle rubber and a biodegradable pen?! Hello.

etsy user: applewarepottery
I always carry a canteen with me so I won't waste any water bottles, but I'm also a coffee drinker as well. Pair that with my love of anything nautical and this travel is pretty much perfect for me. We saw more hand-thrown pottery while driving through North Carolina than I can shake a stick at so I'm drawn to the feel of this verses my metal water bottle.

Delightfully Tacky

Elizabeth from Delightfully Tacky did a blog feature about The Morose Bee! I'm super excited about it because I love her blog and her style and I'm honored for her to have styled my jewelry! Here's what she said:
"I got this amazing necklace from The Morose Bee, and I love it! I'm definitely a fan of unique necklaces. I think I have a penchant for hanging my favorite things from around my neck. I have a Star Trek Enterprise necklace, a polaroid camera necklace, a scrimshaw square rigger necklace, and now a bicycle necklace! It's too cute. She's got some really fun things in her shop and for the month of July she's offering free shipping!"
What she said about free shipping is true, I'm offering free shipping on all items through July 31st. I didn't add the shipping costs into the price of the item or anything like that. The shipping is 100% free for the month of July.

There's No Place Like Home

FINALLY home from the big road trip to Boston! There were a lot of parts of the trip that were fun, but I am only a road girl for so long. I like my comfy bed and my shower with all of my toiletries and not being stuck in a car for 14 hours at a time. I've got orders to catch up on and lots to share, but right now I am exhausted and need to get some sleep for all of the crazy catch up work I have ahead of me. For now, here are some photos from my trip.

Still in Boston. Not time to elaborate, but since only 2 people responded to my giveaway, both will be getting mustache necklaces!

More later. Happy 4th of July weekend everyone!
