Picking Through Some Old Crap

Soooo my friend Nicole gave me this neat-o mini Radio Flyer that I turned into a necklace which made me really excited for this weekend when iI go back to Gainesville because of......drumroll please................... THE WALDO FLEA MARKET!!! aka the most kick ass place ever. Nicole described it as the best place to find "a mix of toothless old women selling boiled peanuts and hipster kids looking for a good bargain." i'm really hoping to find some great charms, old jewelry, brooches, toys, or whatever can make some really great pieces. I really hope the trip will be a lot of fun with my morose bee friendscicle Brandon as well as lead to some great jewelry.
In other news, I've been watching LA Ink all day and all I can think about is that 6 tattoos is not enough! My next tattoo is going to be a half sleeve of a hot air balloon with an anchor kind of like the Modest Mouse artwork. I really love this balloon necklace from etsy seller mamaslittlebabies and I want it to look just like that but with an anchor.
I can't get any more any time soon, but this is torture.

Snail Mail

First I would like to say TA DA!

I know the first set of the morose bee business cards is not exciting for you, but I am over the moon excited! It's silly, I know. Don't rain on my parade man. I got the half cards from moo.com and I like them, but I'm afraid they'll get lost if people actually decide to keep them.

So my Dearest Brandon aka morose bee partner in crime has been sending me some kick ass drawings for TMB. In the short term, these drawings are going to be turned into buttons, stickers, and new business card designs, but if I get a little money saved up I'm going to invest in t-shirt production! I'm excited for all the new products coming up!

Losing Hope in Humanity

Valentine's Day Weekend is over and I am SO relieved! Not that I didn't have a nice Valentine's Day consisting of a 4 hour nap, flowers (seen right), and sushi made by Ari, but this weekend I was supposed to teacher a sculpture class at an art festival. What I've come to realize over the last few years is that most people insist that they are not creative. They are so afraid to become vulnerable that they refuse to ever produce anything themselves. They were all just at the art festival to purchase other people's art. Now, as an Etsy seller, I can fully appreciate the importance of people wanting/needing to buy art from others, but the pure terror that runs through people when they are approached by a purple haired girl asking them if they would like to take an art class just blows my mind. Children, on the other hand, can't wait to get their hands dirty. They are so excited by the idea of someone offering them a lump of clay or a blank canvas and paints. There is no fear. What happens between childhood and adulthood that makes everyone so afraid of paint, clay, glaze, color? At what point does society start getting the creativity beaten out of them?

So in the off time when snooty Palm Beach County folks were turning their noses up at us, Ellie and I made this little man. She got bored and starting sculpting the face, then I added all of the bugs to his head. I think he's a pretty cool dude.

Dali or Kahlo

Okay so FINALLY! The Dali stache! I realized after I made it that it could also be warn as a Frida Kahlo uni brow which is very exciting for me because Frida is my all time fav.
In other news, I'm teaching a sculpture class this weekend at a big art festival and I'm a little nervous about it. I enjoy making jewelry, but making funny little mustaches and rings is different than teaching 60 people about working with clay. Wish me luck!

Le Barbe Bleue

So for some good news and some bad news...

First, the good news... Titty Talk necklaces are back! When I first posted them, they were so popular I couldn't keep up with the first round of custom order requests I received, but I finished the orders and now have some more to post just for fun! Here they are

As for the bad news.... I am going to have to raise my prices by a hair. I wanted to keep everything low when my store first opened to attract buyers and start making sales, but I am now quickly realizing that I cannot justify the time I spend handcrafting each item without raising my prices by a few dollars. I have decided that I will begin the new pricing system after Valentine's Day.

Back to the fun stuff! Today's celebrity stache comes from the French folktale Le Barbe Bleue aka Bluebeard. I have made large, medium, and small sizes...just try not to kill all of your wives while you're wearing them. I am definitely going to be offering more facial hair related items aside from mustaches over the next few weeks. Plus I think the little beards make cute little pendants all on their own.
I will be posting these later today on my store

no twin for you

one of my first hesitations for writing a blog would be that i would never know what to write about, but i now realize my biggest problem is that i am one busy girl. i also have the problem of sharing a computer with my online video game loving boyfriend, but the bigger problem is that most days blogging is not a priority. with that said, if there is anyone out there in the universe who has decided to start reading this on a somewhat regular basis, please forgive me.

moving on....

so this whole facebook celebrity doppelganger has been distressing me only because i cannot figure out who my doppelganger is. there is no one in hollywood who i think looks like me or even has any semblance of my "essence." the closest thing i've been able to come up with is hayley williams from paramore, but she's not exactly my twin, but we're both petite with bright colored hair, pale skin, and funky fashion. for some reason this lack of look-a-like is really bothering me. i can't decide if it's because no one famous has my look so what is that saying about my features or if i should be relieved that i am unique snowflake.

anyways, off to watch last thursday's episode of project runway. more posts about crafts to come tomorrow!
promise.

Celebrity Stache Part 3

While my Salvador Dali mustache is drying, let's see if you can guess who this Celebrity Stache belongs to

I'll give you a hint
In other news, spent the day with my ladies running about town snapping photos with a disposable camera. For the first time in years I took pictures with my friends without everyone running to the camera to make sure the picture was "acceptable" in case it should find it's way to the internet. Plus we actually have to wait to get them developed *gasp*! Talk about a thrill. I'm sure when I finally get around to dropping the cameras back off at CVS the photo quality will be just fabulous and I'll be sure to share.

And now for today's celebrity stache:

JOHN WATERS
The man who rocks a pencil thin mustache like no one else
