The Fix Is In

As someone who rarely gets to shop and/or has no sense of "what's in" or "on trend" sometimes being a jewelry maker can be tough. I thought the perfect solution would be to check out Stitch Fix. For those of you who don't know, Stitch Fix is a monthly sampler box of new clothing similar to the Birch Box craze.

Once I inspected some of the items that I got, I tried to match them up with jewelry items to see how I would style them or to further examine what articles of clothing some of my jewelry items would work best with.

They give you this handy dandy styling card for each item which is super helpful because it also gives me some tips on jewelry styling.

I ended up keeping a dress from the Many Belles Down spring 2012 line and I am in love with it! I have worn it as often as possible since receiving it!

The other day I worked on several necklaces reworking vintage charms and am excited to get them up and running in my Etsy shop. It was refreshing to approach assembling items differently and create a new aesthetic for myself and my work.

I'm excited to get my next Fix and I'm definitely looking forward to finding other sampler boxes.

Photo an Hour

I've seen a few folks do Photo An Hour Posts and I always find it so interesting to see how people organize their days and their lives. Since I enjoy seeing other people do them so much, I thought I'd try one out myself.

10:00 am: Wake Up
Okay maybe waking up at 10 is super late for most people, but I usually don't get home until about 11pm.

11:00pm: Internet Nonsense
Maybe it's a super bad habit, but the first thing I do when I wake up is jump on the computer and check out the latest updates from the blogs I follow.

12:00pm: Shower

1:00pm Walk to Work
Sometimes my walk to work is my only chance to see anything outdoors! I guess that's modern living for ya.

2:00pm: Mosaic Work
I was really fortunate this particular day at work because I was just kinda hanging out and waiting on some potential customers. Which means, I actually got to sit down and work on a few things just for fun!

4:00pm: Mosaic Programs
Calling it quits for the day

4:00pm: Organizing Pottery
I can't help but take care of a few things before I leave for the day

5:00pm: Walking Home

6:00pm: Assembling My Grocery Lists
Writing out my grocery list and assembling my coupons is one of my favorite things to do. I think I like it more than cooking itself!

7:00pm: Grocery Shopping
I really hate our local grocery store! But running to a farmer's market, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, etc, etc, to pick up everything that I actually need is something I just don't have time for.

8:00pm: Making Dinner
Appetite for Reduction is my absolute favorite cookbook!

9:00pm: Big Fat Taco Salad

10:00pm: Jewelry Work
Working late into the night on new items

11:00pm: Denny Time
My little man is getting so big! And by big I mean he's still teeny tiny, but he seems so big to me!

12:00pm: Making Banana Bread
Maybe it's odd to be cooking so late at night, but it's the only time of day I have to do any cooking for the week considering most days I work 10 hours.

1:00am: Last Minute Blogging
Usually before I hit the hay for the night I try to square up any last minute posts or online work. Between work, The Morose Bee, and derby I feel like I should just get a computer implanted into my brain.

I actually had a lot of fun taking all the photos throughout the day and putting this whole thing together! It was really interesting to take a look at what I was actually doing every hour and kind helped keep my procrastination in check. This is actually a really great creative exercise!

Artist Swap

Okay so I know I wasn't the best at posting everything that happened from the 30 Day Challenge that I did. Mainly I'm just bad at remembering to photograph everything that I do like the handmade gift I did for my niece only to box it up and stick it the mail without a single photo! However, the best thing that came out of it was a little inspiration for the sponsorship program I'm doing that has let to.....

I'm partnering up with Lizette from CreativityLizette to do a craft swap! I am absolutely STOKED about this whole thing and I hope you sign up.

Here's how it's going to work.

Each of us will pick a favorite artist and receive something inspired by them.
How it works:
You’ll each be paired up with a swap partner from one of CreativityLizette's Blog readers,  you’ll email your partners and give them:
  • The name of your favorite artist
You may give your partner 3 artists to choose from if you wish.
  • Any helpful links about your artist, especially if he/she is a new upcoming artist.
  • Your address.
Then you’ll research your partner’s favorite artist and create something inspired by that artist for them.
To participate email me at with your name and contact email by April 30th.
On May 4th you’ll receive an email with the name of your swap partner and their email.
Artists swap pieces should be mailed by May 31st. You are welcome to include any extra goodies if you like.

Anyone is welcome to join this swap. So, be prepared to mail internationally.

Habitat for Insanity

So part of the 30 Day Challenge was creating an artists workspace, so I thought i would share a little DIY that I did to spruce my workspace up a bit.

Customized Cork Board Inspiration Board

I just used basic black craft paint from Blick painted over masking tape to create the designs. It was super easy and low cost!

I think I got lucky that I have shelves the EXACT size of the cork board squares I found, but I'm sure you could easily cut them down to whatever size or shape you needed.

Also, the squares came with adhesive strips, but I highly recommend adding extra glue to each corner regardless of what brand you get.

I can now used the space to pin inspiring images, to do lists, or whatever else floats my boat. Ari says it looks like a high school locker now, but I like it.

Off(icial) Life

I rarely talk about "my derby life" on this blog mainly because I started it to focus on arts and my creative business, but derby has been creeping into everything lately. If no other reason than the fact that I'm a committee head, I am tuned into derby related things at least a few hours a day. I can't help but share a little bit.

Here'a few sneak peeks into my officiating life and the awesome people I work with. Photos courtesy of David Andrew Morris.

My updated profile on the Boston Derby Dames profile! Check out the full profile here.

This one is just a shot of me working in the penalty box. Really uneventful, but it's my first every non blurry "action" shot! Derby is wayyyy more exciting than this picture makes it seem! I promise!

Psssstt! One last thing! Today is Friday the 13th! You now what that means.....13% off! Today only! Enter the code FRIDAY13 at check in my Etsy shop.
