First Giveaway

Well it seems like I either have free time a plenty or am so busy I can't even think straight. Never a nice middle ground somewhere. This week would be one of those busy weeks.
The good news is I've decided to host my first ever giveaway for my blog readers!
One random person will be given a free mustache necklace!
To enter you must
1. be a follower of this blog
2. comment on this post expressing interest along with a way to contact you (e-mail, etsy account, whatever)
I will pick the winner at random in one week.

In other news, I attended a craft party last Friday in honor of Etsy's birthday. I know many people around the country hosted or attended similar events and it was awesome to mingle with some creative folk. Nicole, Megan, and I headed down to Pearl in Fort Lauderdale for the event hosted by the Hollywood Craft Mafia.Out of the various craft options, I decided to make a stamp which you can see its purpley majesty above. It came out pretty cool, but I was feeling rather uninspired.

Greenaide Seedbomb Vending Machines

Okay, officially one of the coolest freaking things I've seen in a while. They're called Greenaid Seedbomb Vending Machines and Commonstudio is currently looking for financial backers for this project. The idea is the have the vending machines posted in various places around the country stocked full of seedbombs that contain appropriate plantlife for that particular region of the country. The money made from people buying seed bombs are going to be used to support community efforts like parks, etc....and least that's how I understand it. I think it's so awesome and if I owned a brick and mortar business I would want a seedbomb machine in front of it. You should go and watch the video and if you want to support the minimum donation is only $1.00!

New Finds

So I made another treasury and I'm quite fond of this one.

I've also discovered two new Etsy shops with I am in LOVE with. They're the kind of shops that really make me wish I wasn't so damn tight on money. The first shop is leemeszaros which makes merit badges for silly and wonderful reasons.

Like for being busy as a beaverOr being just my typeOr for doing it like rabbits
I feel some intense early holiday gift shopping coming on in my very near future. There are a few I would like to get for Ari but he would never do anything with them. I just want a whole jacket covered with them.

My other new favorite is kharaledonne which sells hand painted lockets and I want like 10 of them so I can wear them all at once.

I love finding new and exciting shops on Etsy that sell original products. Sometimes it feels like everyone is selling all of the same things. I try to make my shop unique and think of fun and exciting jewelry that no one else is making although when I think of any idea it's usually already somewhere in Etsyland.

An Update and Some Inspiration

I've been in a bit of a catching up mania these last two days and I got a new little somethin' somethin' for the vintage section of my Etsy shop.

In the spirit of catching up with crafting, here's a few things that have been inspiring me this weekend

Celebrity Stache

It's been a while, but I have a new mustachio for you all. Today's celebrity stache is a bit of a multi-part installment, but only because these two gents have such similar staches as their claim to fame.
I have contestant #1 Mr Burt Reynolds
and contestant #2 Mr Tom Selleck

And for the stache.......

Not too bad eh? This stache ain't messin' around.

In other news, I received a lovely little treat in the mail from Etsy user lavenderdreams4ever. If you remember, a while back I did a giveaway on her blog and she sent me a bag of lavender and mint as a thank you gift. I put it in my shoe bin in my closet because I'm always worried my shoe smell is going to get on my clothes and that would just be disastrous for all involved parties.

I finally have a little sanity! Time to craft and blog and just relax. It's glorious. I never realize how much I appreciate even an hour of free time until I'm working 12 hours a day at my summer camp day job chasing after 30 kids.

In the chaos of it all I did manage to post a few new jewelry items:
All of these items come in sets and have other pieces to them that I am very excited about posting this weekend. As for now my back, feet, and brain are feeling severely beaten and abused. It's only appropriate that this week's Weekly Wishlist is composed of lovely relaxation related products that my aching body could so desperately use right now.

Can you friggin believe this porch swing bed by Etsy seller timlaursen???? Apartment life prevents me from owning anything so wonderful, but I want to curl up on this magnificent piece of furniture with a fruity cocktail and never get up again.
Buying soaps on the internet makes me a little nervous because I am very particular about smells, but I love a good luxurious bath. Lush is probably my all time favorite store. I could stand there and smell everything all day long. There are a ton of Etsy soap sellers and I definitely need to take the plunge and test out some soaps from a few of them.

The floor of my work studio is nothing but concrete and my poor feet are just dead by the end of the day. I see products from Etsy seller hydraheart all over the place and I would really love to have their oh so comfy looking slippers to come home to.
Umm.....I MUST HAVE THIS NOW. My eyes nearly jumped out of my skull when this lovely little morsel by Etsy seller newenglandcandyco popped up on my screen. As a vegan, most of the popular candies are off limits and I love any opportunity to indulge. This is one wishlist item I might need to purchase now.

You may have notice I've changed the blog layout a bit. Hopefully I will be able to slowly turn this blog into something respectable that people will enjoy reading. The layout and color scheme have been bothering me for a while and I finally had a chance to fiddle around with it a bit. It's much easier on the eyes to say the least.

Busy Bee

Working at my day job for 11 hours a day has been sucking.... a lot. I am working during daylight hours and am unable to photograph any new items and I'm so tired that I want to go straight to sleep when I get home. I'm practically holding my eyelids open just to be typing right now.

I still haven't even photographed my little trains yet! My life is insanity and I apologize to anyone who keeps up with my blog/etsy shop for the serious lack of productivity lately. I'm hoping I'll be able to make it up to you starting on Friday.

Tipping Etsy Etsyle

I posted this on the Etsy forums. It's something I've been thinking about for a while now and I felt like sharing it here as well. To see some of the comments on the subject, your can check out the forum post here.

One of the most awkward parts of my day job is when a customer spots the tip jar on the counter and asks with a very confused facial expression " I supposed to tip you?" I work in a small uncommon business where tipping etiquette isn't exactly common knowledge. Most people don't know what to do in an unfamiliar business setting especially with tipping. Because of this, even if a customer leaves me a $2 tip, I am grateful. It's them saying "Hey, I appreciate your help. Go treat yourself to a coffee."

When frolicking in Etsyland, I think about comparisons between my "real" job and being a member of the Etsy community. Etsy sellers and buyers alike try to do little things every day to make the buying and selling experience more pleasant for one another. We can't "tip" each other necessarily, but a customer taking the time to write me a nice long thank you e-mail for how satisfied she was with her necklace brightened my day so much it literally brought me to tears. That doesn't happen with a factory made necklace that you bought under the florescent glow of the mall. It was the best "tip" I've ever received.

Even though I spend most of my Etsy time alone behind a computer screen, I try and remember that my latest purchase of totally awesome earrings were made by a person. So what can I do to thank them? How can I make their day? Support their business? Whether it's a blog shout out or a tweet, I try and do ANYTHING at all to show how thankful I am for pleasant convos, prompt shipping, and the sweet handwritten note in my envelope.

We're here for each other. We share our stories and struggles and advice. I am a member of this community because I want to be able to connect with people and I want to brighten someone's day even if I can't afford to spend a lot of money in their store.

I guess my point is that the best part of my business is you. It's cheesy, but it's true and it's why most of us are here. We're all trying to pay our bills and feed our kids and it's so easy to get swallowed up in the frustration and negativity of being a struggling small business owner. I find the little things that we do for each other here are better than any business savvy and I'm going to keep "tipping" everyone the best I can.

Weekly Wishlist

I'm officially changing the title of this little segment to the Weekly Wishlist. I still can't figure out what it is with me and Wednesdays, but the Wednesday Wishlist just isn't happening. It could having something to do with being up all night catching up on season 2 of True Blood!!!
Nicole and I are determined to watch it all before season 3 starts on June 13th. Considering we both work every day and I normally only have the energy to stay up for 1 or 2 episodes after dinner, we're pushing it.

It's been so hot out already and barely feels like summer has started. Everyday when I get up and get dressed all I think is "What can I wear to work that will make me sweat and stink the least?" Gotta love Florida. It also doesn't help that my job involves working around 2 hot kilns. If I could wear bathing suits to work every day, I totally would.

Oh so remember that Gainesville craft show from the other weekend? The one that didn't really have anyone show up to it? Well, my friend Rachael just sent me a photo from the event:

Pretty bad huh? Literally no one there.

Gnome Central

I received these AWESOME gnomies in the mail yesterday! I love them so much I've been wearing them since they arrived. I bought them from Etsy seller polkadotpancake and you should buy a pair too!

It inspired me to FINALLY get around to finish posting some more of my gnome necklaces that I made months ago. So check out my Etsy shop for some new gnome friends.

In the spirit of things, I also decided it was only appropriate that I made a gnome treasury as well.
So then when I logged onto blogger this morning, I saw that today's Daily Nail was gnomes! Go figure. Is this getting too gnomie? No, I didn't think so either.

Whelp, it's time to get my trains out of the kiln. I'll be back later with the Wednesday Wishlist!

June Sponsorships

My trains are still in the works. Actually I'll be putting them in the kiln today! I've also got a few other surprises going in today. Hopefully, by the end of this week there will be some awesome new jewelry to post about.

In the meantime, I've decided to sponsor a few blogs for the month of June, more specifically Which Goose's blog and Delightfully Tacky.

Emily from Which Goose seems to have found her niche and has some pretty impressive sales numbers on Etsy. Her headbands are beautiful and I have yet to see a single Treasury that is even remotely floral themed that does not include one of her headbands.

Delightfully Tacky is a great fashion blog. I love Elizabeth's style plus she lives in Alaska so there are always beautiful backdrops in all of her photos.

Also, when I logged onto Blogger this morning, I found this add on the side bar of my site. I'm guessing because I've tagged a few blog posts with the phrase "roller derby" it put that add on my site, but either way it kinda made me chuckle a bit. I went to the site and they've actually got some good stuff and decent prices so hey.. win win.
